Default Best cleaning products for Show?

For the experts, what is the best type of was that is going to give me that car show look?
I have been using turtle platinum and am unimpressed. I want my car to SHINE.

Also,

How would you recommend cleaning up the engine for a show?
I was looking at the engine cleaners they they had like 500 warnings about how the agent should'nt touch 1/2 the stuff under the hood. (Wires, carb, all intakes, etc). It scared me off.

So if anyone has good advise about how to make your engine sparkle I would greatly apprectiate it.

Thank you in advance.

for better protection of the car's finish experts always recommend the actual wax instead of sprays. downside is occasional white streaks which are sometimes hard to remove especially around edges and curves. for shows i think a spray like turtle wax ice, which gives a beautiful shine without streaks is the best.

for the engine i usually use any regular car wash liquid, dilute it in water as instructed, soak the engine, let it sit there for 10 minutes and then just rinse. best thing is to not let the engine compartment get dirty enough in the first place. make sure that the fuse boxes and the battery are covered with some plastic. i usually use shopping bags.

Look here for some good hints

Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum

Wash with a good car wash soap. then dry and get the under hood and trunk plus the inside door frames

Bar clay the entire car plus use a product like Scratch X in bad areas.

A Good cleaning polish

A Good Carnauba wax perhaps 2 layers letting the 1st dry for several hours.

The engine I use a clean wet cloth and try to wipe away any dirt, on every wash. Then detail the plastic and rubber hoses, tanks, and engine compartment.

I've been to 16 shows in the past 2+ years and have taken home 13 awards of various places.

Ok, I read the entire sticky thread on cleaning the engine.

The only thing not really answered is what exactly has to be covered. I saw air filter, alternator, and coil -- but whats a coil?

I would love to see a picture of an engine bay prepped for the simple clean + power wash method that seemed to be the best method.

Check out the gallery. You should be able to find a few in there.

I've been using Eagle One products for the last 10 years or so
Nanowax in the spray and bottle. For the glossy shine between wax jobs, Eagle One 'Spray and Wipe' between wax jobs
For the wet look on the tires - I have been using some product in an aerosal spray can I found at Wal-mart - White can with Black and gold lettering - I don't know the name of it off hand - The best I have found after experimenting with all brands - $3.00 a can.

I use lots of elbow grease to clean the engine!! Use lots of little bottle brushes, nylon corvered sponges and towels to remove excess dirt and water as soon as you clean. A three foot wooden dowel to get to the hard to reach areas is nice, use a towel at the end!! As long as you are carefull not to splash water everywhere, you can clean the engine with a very slow stream of water and immediately use a wet vac to pull excess water out. Once you take all day to clean your engine, you can maintain it in less than two. The initial time investmen is worth it!!

Sears sells an attachment kit consisting of mini brushes and tubes for any size vacuums. You can either suck out the water or blow it out of crevices when you cannot reach it completely.

Please clay bar the car before using any waxes, as any imperfections from surface dirt and contaminants will prevent surface reflection.

Zaino is my choice for wax it is a two part polymer that outshines everything (IMO) that I have used before. It is only sold throught their website. Their detail spray is the best, I know a shine product is good when it actually attracts bees as you are applying it to the surface. Zaino is a bit expensive, but you will be happy in the end.

the best way to give your engine bay the new car shine is when the engine is warm spray the whole engine bay with black magic tire foam just stay away from the alt. i was sceptical at first but after i tried it i was amazed
