I always try the least aggressive option first - take off as little of the paint as needed to get the results you desire. You can step it up later on if you need to. I assume it is a single stage paint not a base coat/clear coat paint.
Mequiars SwirlX is readily available and can be used by hand if you don't have a machine polisher. You can step up to Meguiars Ultimate Compound if you need more correction. 3M products have a good reputation and they have a range of products that provide varying levels of correction. The body shop or auto shop where you purchase them can help you select the best products for your needs.
If you have a machine polisher, there are BUNCHES of polishes available online... Poor Boy's World has a range of products all reasonably priced.
