Default Price to paint a rear Bumper

I went to a bodyshop the other day to get a quote on fixing some rear end damage (Damage Pic ).

The absorber was around $106.00 and the bumper cover was about $300.00. I plan on getting an aftermarket cover in place of the OEM as the price is about the same.

My question is what would be a fair price on the labor and paint (stock color)?

I worked in body work and the price of 300 for a cover was a good price and so was the absorber. After you add in paint and labor, it should be around $550.
Price breakdown:
300 cover
100 absorber
100 labor
50 paint (depends on color)

That is what I got quoted for.

I went to a aftermarket shop and did the work myself with my own frame puller, etc., and I got away with replacing the bumper for 250 dollars, with the most expensive red paint that you can get. Thanks Ford for painting the car that color.

Can't believe you need new absorbers though.

Hope this helps.

Actually the costs I listed were for parts only. They wanted an additional $450.00 to paint them.

As for the absorber, he hit me doing atleast 35mph and I was at a dead stop. Totaled his car, a 98 Honda Accord. His hood was nearly folded in half all the way to his windshield. It even knocked out one of my ac vents in the dash(the small half moon shaped ones).

I sued his Insurance company when they offered $500 for alll damages and any medical bills I had. Nice offer by them eh?

450 dollars to paint a bumper? What a rip off.
They only offered you 550 when you got quoted for 1000. I'ld take them to court.

it cost me $260 for them to paint it rio red (tri coat). red is most expensive to paint

I had a similar issue with the front fascia when I hit a racoon.
Here is the break down on the pricing:
$430 - SSE Gen 1 Front Fascia
$100 - Truck Freight Shipping
$275 - Paint
$275 - Grilles to complete the look

I found that there is a ton of hidden prices that you don't see right off. Body shops painting has a tough time to get a perfect look. I would just due an OEM replacement and paint and find a shop that will stand behind their work and maybe even warranty the work (in case of cracking later or something).

Good luck with the fix!
