you can mod (shorten) your antenna to about 18 inches. this is done but unscrewing the antenna from the car then place the antenna end in a vise but wrap the antenna in a cloth to prevent scratching the black paint. Then with the end exposed from the vise take a carpenters molding removal tool and place the v portion on the little ball and hit the bar with the hammer. save the ball for replacement later. Now measure 18 inches from the base of the antenna and cut it with a haxsaw. Then grind the end so it will fit in the hole of the ball. Place a little epoxy on the end of the antenna that is to be placed in the ball and reattach the ball to the antenna. Now take some flat black Kylon paint available from any walmart or parts store and spray the antenna black. let it dry and replace it on the car. This will not effect the reception of you radio stations and looks alot better.

Well…… I just did it. I took my Dremel and cut the antenna down to 17 inches.

Then I put the cut end (still with ball) into my bench vice. I then took a claw hammer and put the claw part just short of the ball.

I then gave it about 3 good yanks (keeping my other hand over the end to catch the ball), and took off the ball.

I then took the other end (that still screws into the car) over to my grinding wheel and smoothed out the end.

Next I glued the ball to the new shorter antenna.

After setting (which was only a couple minutes) I repainted it glossy black.

I then brought it out and screwed it back on the car, and tested the reception…… no visible loss.

The antenna is now about even with the top of the roof (if not just a tad shorter). It looks FANTASTIC. Anyone thinking of this modification should stop thinking about it and DO IT!

I did that the second day i had my car, i just simply cut mines nearly perfectly level with my roof... I first tested the reception by taking my attena out, then found a similar piece of metal wire, and touching it to the place where your would hook your antena into, and was able to have perfect recpetion with it cut all the way down to 4 inches even!

Okay, I WANT to shorten my antenna, but first I have to get it REATTACHED!! The threaded portion of the base is stripped. Anyone know how to replace it?
