Default smoked headlights

I have a 2000 Mustang I recently smoked my taillights with the VHT nite-shade product, and thought it would look cool to do the headlights as well, but everytime I apply the product to the head light lens it cracks up when it dries, so I wet sanded them back down, reapplied and it had the same results, is there something differnet I have to do to the headlight lens to get good results?

You can buy smoked headlights at one of these links below, thats what my suggestion is. They also have Headlight Covers out there somewhere, you just need to google around a bit. My $.02!
