Hey all,
My water spot problem is definitely better after using clay and scratchX 2.0. At first, I thought it didn't work, b/c I could still see faint spots (see the first picture). I re-clayed those areas and used scratchX again -- this time really pressing hard, and using linear strokes, not circular strokes. I think that the are going away. I can still find a few faint outlines, but I'm pretty confident I got them beat now.
However, I noticed 4 chips in my paint, from rocks. I remember when I got them, driving on the freeway, hit a patch of repaved road, heard something like a shot hit my body multiple times. Well, not much I could have done. Anyway, they are clearly all the way through the paint. I was going to buy some touch up paint. Do I need anything else? Do I need that touch up primer?
no need for a touch up primer. just use a good touch up pen that is color coated for your facotory color. I would recomend getting a 3M clear bra if you are concerned about chips and if you do a lot of highway driving it really does wonders for your paint over the years. and saves from the dreadful touching up or chips.
by the way, looks like your from cali. Your water spots may be a cause from acid rain which is highly likly since cali and the western states have the smog issues. the rain will really tear the cars paint up in some instances. keep a good constant wax on there and make sure not to us automatic car washes.

Thanks for the suggestion for the bra. 2 of the spots are on the hood, and it might have helped. But the other 2 are on my driver's side rear quarter panel. Highway 80 is a mess in Cali. Not sure what I could have done there.
You are right about wax -- there are 2 coats on right now. The first time I washed the car, I wasn't careful enough, and that's when the water spots really dug into the paint. I've been trying to get them out ever since. Now I use a filter on my garden hose, and with the wax, I don't have a problem with new water spots -- just getting rid of the first ones I created before the car was waxed!
