Default Effect of acetone on windows: good or bad?

Started to take off tint off my rearview mirror yesterday and well.. I got the top layer off and most of the 2nd in a few spots, but there is still much glue left. It comes off w/ ammonia and some elbow grease and leaves a good view, but after I went to wash my hands and the glue would not come off with soap, I tried acetone and it took it right off. Would acetone do the same to my windows? Or would it fog them up? Any input appreciated, thanks.

it shouldnt hurt it, but i dont know for sure, your best bet would be to try it in a corner somewhere that isnt noticable and see what it does

Acetone should not hurt glass but if you get it somewhere else it may cause some damage.

Try using original Go-Jo, smear it on the windows and let it set for 5 or 10 minutes. Use a razor blade and scrape it clean. If some of the Go-Jo lands on plastic you'll be ok because the plastic parts don't mind the lanolin.

Tried some polish remover without acetate last night and the stuff just came right off.. only hard part is making sure none gets anywhere else.. got a drop or two on a piece of leather. devastating effect but its not that noticeable, just gotta be really careful. im stayin away from razor blades cuz of the defogger.. ah my window is so clear now. thx for input.

like bobnsons said, just use a razor blade withwindow cleaner and the glue will come right off.

A razor blade will work, but you have to be extra careful not to scratch the window with it. It's tedious but you'll be banging your head on the wall if you scratch it.

screw that; the nail polish remover w/o acetone was great :P it takes it right off, and you dont have to worry about the razor blade catching one of your defoggers.. no razor blades for me.

thx guys

Your right about not using a razor blade around the heating elements. I sorta figured that would be a "no brainer".

Look at the Go-Jo part. It's really great stuff. When you let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes it'll turn the old gule pretty gooey. If you don't want to use a razor blade just wipe it off. It takes a bit more elbow grease and maybe a 2nd coat.

Also another trick I learned a few years back....if you have an old vehicle where the dash needs some help.....smear it with Go-Jo and let it sit till it all soaks in. Then apply protectant.

Before Armor All and the others came along people used "brake fulid". Of course it only took a very very little amount and too many people poured on too much.
