I was told that Saleen has a deal with the manufacturer of the paint that nobody else can buy it. I know thats certain on the Lizstick red Saleen mustangs but im not sure if this is true on that orange or not. However I would love to see that mustang when you get finished with it im from Charlotte and go to school at unc greensboro so its not too far of a drive ya know.
Well, to make a post in here a year later.. My daughter and I agreed on "Candy Tangerine Metal Flake" from House of Colors. I think it will be pretty sweet, homefully the car will be ready for paint pretty soon. Thanks for all your tips and advice guys. It will be trimmed in black (black GT stripes, black interior, black "Bullit" rims). I think it will look good when it's done.

If you are able to get the paint code from a ford dealer or off a website that breaks down the colors and their codes you should be able to go to any decent auto paint store and tell them you want to but x number of quarts / gallons of that paticular color and they can match it. Plus places like that usually have binders full of paint samples that are factory colors and usually they have the that come of all sorts of vehicles and usually they go back at least 10- 15 years.
Aslo another thing to do is to try and get a paint swatch from the dealer, just go to the body shop and see if the painter can give you a sample of the colors you want and that way you will have a hardcopy reference to compare to the paint prepared by the paint store.
I had to have the color on my mustang matched ( custom mixed color) I just took a paint sample into the paint store I have used and my dad uses and they matched it perfectly.
Hope this helps some.

Thats SXRP, we've looked at lots of different paint samples and seens lots of different Orange cars. I am pretty sure the HOk Candy Tangerine is what we're gonna go with. Looks like the car has be to painted 5 times. First with primer, second with black, third with gold base coat, fourth with candy tangerine, and last with clear. I bet this is going to be expensive!

It will be moderately pricey but trust me in the end it is all worth it. Candy paints are so beautiful when they are done right. Good luck and let us know how it turns out

In 1965, Poppy Red WAS actually Orange, it was paint code "3". It was used again in 1969 with the same code, only it was called Calypso Coral. It's tough to acurately duplicate true colors online and in photos sometimes, it can look sorta red.
I had 65 that I painted Opel GT Orange. It was burnt orange color and then I blacked out the inner side panels from the side indent up to the back of the front wheel well up to a point just at the center of the wheel well.
Looked Fantastic.
Wish I had a pic for ya.
Problem though was the orange was a cop magnet.
Stood out 10 miles off.
There were two reds for early Mustangs, Rangoon Red and Poppy Red, Poppy was bright red and Rangoon had a slight orange tint. My dad's first new car was a candyapple red 70 coupe. Over time it became orange with oxidation of the paint.
Probably the two orange mustangs were repainted a different color. PPG was the original paint supplier for Ford for about 100 years and there is a supplier of PPG paints called Ditzler Auto Paint where you can look at paint chips for your car by year. Look at the data plate on the door to see the original color of the car.
That is a great color. The color my daughter picked is not my personal favorite orange color, but it's pretty sweet. Candy Tangerine, it's metal flake, lots of sparkle. You will definitely notice a car that color cruising down the highway. I have not decided yet for sure, but I am leaning towards blacking out part of the hood, similiar to the 69/70 Mach 1 hood. I like the look of black with orange.
