Default Discoloration/fading on door panels in 2004 models

Hi everyone!

Has anyone else noticed that the door panels on (apprently all) 2004 Mustang have a discolration/fading on them? This fading seems apparent mostly on cars with a dark charcoal interior but I think the problem occurs on all interior colors (and maybe even on other 99+ models). When I bought my 2004 Mustang GT I thought that the fading was simply residue from some kind of shipping tape but when I tried to remove the fading I had no luck.

Does anyone else here know what I am talking about? The fading appears if my memory serves me correctly in the area underneath the "arm rest" on the door panel (where the door panel bends) and is about an inch wide and extends to the small storage area in the door. It's not a large area of fading, but it is very noticeable.

Anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed? I asked the dealership where I bought the car what can be done and they said that all Ford would do is spray the door panels for me. That seems very excessive and I don't want to do that all.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much!

I have noticed the same thing. All Mach's have the same problem and apparently all Mustangs. it's from the use of old castings/molds for the 04 year. no sense making new molds when the 05's will be different.

I had mine replaced by the dealer and the replacemnets came in with the same discoloration line on both door panels.

I have also noticed this on my Cobra, the passenger side door.
