I need to replace some sheet metal. I am debating on whether to buy or rent a welder. Has anyone here used one of the wire welders that uses flux wire intead of gas? Lowes and even Walmart sell a small Lincoln model for about $250.00. Anyone that has experience with them how about some feedback. Thanks in advance.

The flux welders leave a really dirty weld . Not good at all for auto body . If you find one that can take a gas conversion kit though , it will work fine . I bought my welder used for 300 including a bottle , regulator , and full spool of wire . Check out your local trader for some deals . Also look for local auctions

If you buy one get the "infinite" controls. Not the detent ones. I got one a long time ago with the bottle new $750 about the same price now.From A & I supply. Brand is Century. They are the sh-ts for sheetmetal and will weld up to 1/4 inch plate.
