ok, so i want to refabric the speaker grills on the doors of my mach 460 equipped cobra. just the ones up at the top by the mirrors. so i went to a fabric/craft store ant they had nothing even close to my car color(you try matching Laser Red). so i bought the closest color i could find. i've found a duplicolor paint that matches my car. my question is...can i refabric the speaker grills and then paint over the fabric? its not like anyone touches them so they shouldn't chip. right? what do you guys think? let me know asap. thanks a lot peeps.

Yeah that is the problem I am having right now. Can't find a fabric I want to use!!!!
I would think it would be OK to paint with fabric/cloth paint. Obviously make sure you remove them from the speakers.
Let me know how it turns out. Plus you can always use alcohol to remove the paint and the fabric, LOL.
i painted the grills on the upper doors yesterday with duplicolor touch up spray paint. although it took 2 small cans, they came out great! i would suggest painting them white and then your proper color. i just painted over the black, and since laser red is a darkish red, it tookj alot of paint for the red to show up enough for my liking. plus the first few light coats absorbed into the fabric. but i'd suggest the mod, it looks great.

maybe.
but I will probably just recloth them in black and paint them the color I want.
Might be easier.
Radio Shack sells speaker fabric. but I may just go back to the fabric store and get black.
what color are you going to paint them? my car is laser red so i matched that color...but your car is black...so what color are you going to use?

well I just got some material yesterday on the way home. It is black with some silver metal material over it. Hopefully I will see how it works out this weekend. Going to remove the grills and work in the house. Darn 2.5 year old keeps running into the street!!
I love the metal silver (hence my nickname, on my liscense plate also.)
So we shall see!
I will probably make and article for it. See if the forum admins like it. My last article had no pics, so I will make sure to take some this time!
I keep you posted.
Well I tried out the fabric I bought. I looks terrible!!!!
You can see the right through the new fabric.
Guess I am going to have to find some black fabric and then paint it.
I want to do a silver accent interior, problem is I have a black/grey interior. So a lot of the interior is grey.
What color do you think I should paint it?
given the current color I have.
hmmm, thats a tuffy...im not sure what color to go with. my gt had black/ gray interior. i still had lots of aluminum interior accents. i painted my door cup thingys by the switches black along with the piece that snaps in behind the int. door handle. that way when you add aluminum in those areas it "pops" out at you a little more. maybe you could paint those grills gray? or www.uprproducts.com sells aluminum grill covers for those , too. but im not a big fan of those. i did A LOT of interior work on my car over the last two weeks or so, ill hasta post some pics. let me know what you decide to do.

Wow you had to paint those pieces black. Mine is already balck there.
I guess I haven't updated this thread for awhile, sorry about that.
I went out and bought some speaker fabric at an audio shop. Charcoal grey.
They look much better now. I put the before and after pic up in my gallery.
Yeah ther hard part was getting the glue off my hands! Of course I cheated and put masking tape on the inside to hold the edges down, not like anyone will se the tape!!!
