Default Surface prep and paint tips needed for 65 Mustang Fastback for fiber board panels

Hello,

Is anyone out there familiar with the fiber board panels that are in a 65 Mustang Fastback?
I want to strip off the faded and cracking paint from a poorly preped previous re-paint. I'm unsure what chemicals or other means I can use to smooth out and clean surfaces to re-paint. In addition to being nearly 40 years old, I'm also not sure just how brittle the fiber board can / would be.
Your expert opinions are most welcome.

Thanks.

Joe

I was just informed that these panels are not fiber board but fiberglass.
Is there anyone out there with experience in refinishing fiberglass?

Thanks.

Joe

I believe Eastwood company makes a fiberglass repair kit. I know there is a resin and other things involved.
I hate to stray away from my love of Mustangs, but you may want to consider looking at a Corvette website and some of the forums.

My dad has a Vette, maybe he knows some sites and info. I'll keep you posted if you think it will help.

My fastback panels are in great shape, I'm sorry I can't speak from experience.
