I just found out that my '95 Mustang (only had it for a few months) had a really poor repair job done on it about a year ago. At the time I bought it, I knew it had been in a slight fender-bender and the impact had been on the front end.
Last week, someone backed into my PARKED car on the driver's side front quarter-panel. In looking at what repairs would be needed, the body shop noticed what a poor job the previous repair had been. So much so that the styrofoam padding in the front bumper assembly had been DUCT TAPED back together and reused.
Needless to say I am a little frustrated that it wasn't fixed correctly, but now what do I do? I don't need an entire new bumper, but can I get JUST the foam padding? Maybe a salvage yard? Can I go back to the place that repaired it 15 months ago and ask them to do it correctly, now that it's changed ownership? Am I just stuck?

Not yet, I just found on Saturday. But these shoddy repairs were made before I bought the car.....should I call the former owner's insurance company? Or are you meaning I should call mine?
call yours. you pay insurance so they can fix YOUR car. well, YOUR car has a screwed up bumper. so they gotta fix it. while you are at it, you may want to look into an aftermarket bumper.

Yeah, that's one approach I guess. I just have fabulous insurance (USAA)...the cheapest around, and I would hate to have something like that on my claim record when I pay insurance to cover my driving and others' driving into me....not for a previous owner's shoddy repair.
It looks like I can get a new bumper absorber for about $150 here at a Mustang shop in town...better than it becoming a claim on my insurance.
