Hello,
I washed my car a couple of days ago and i noticed a spot right next to my intake... It seems my clear coat is peeling.. Is there anything i can do to patch it?
No easy fix, if the clearcoat has a "bubble" of air between it and the base coat, the best route is to remove the clear and apply another coat. Better leave this to an expert.
not really a bubble.... its basically chipped away.. its like 1"x1". I think it got chiped and when i was using a powerwasher it just peeled up the rest and broke off... but theres some pieces that are stuck underneath it... ill try and get some pics of it..
You will need to sand it down and reaply clearcoat. When you sand it try not to remove much of the basecoat.
If you dont have a compressor and paintgun you can buy a cheap designers airbrush (with propelant can) to apply the clearcoat. This works better than using a brush. The coat has to cover the spot and then some more above it.
Let it dry for a couple of days and wet sand the spot using 1000 grit, then polish.
did you spray some sort of degreaser or chemical in your engine bay? some of that stuff can take your paint off.

I dunno how it got started, it just showed up after i got out of those car wash stations... you know the ones that have the powerwash things... I took some pics but left the card at home.. ill post a pic of it as soon as possible.
GTRaptor told you all you need to know. If you need more directions, check your local library for a book on auto body repair. That's in a tough spot. It'll be difficult to get a polisher on it without burning the edges of the scoop.
damn.. Ill have to check a book out... hopefully a friend of mine can take a look at it soon, hes a bit more experienced than me...
Thanks for the advice

Hi guys, i have the same problem but above the rear taillight the size of a nickel.
I have some touch up paint from the body shop and I noticed today it might be getting bigger?
I tried to chip some of the edges off so i could apply some of the touch up. The problem is, every time I flake more off, the bigger the problem gets!
I don't care is its not perfect (the car isnt) but i dont want it to spread. Any ideas? should i just blob the touch up over the whole area? I was hoping to remove the excess clearcoat (the stuff that has already separated) but im having a hell of a time.
Also, I noticed the front fenders (wheel wells only) the clear coat is completly gone and flaked off (lower portion plastic bumper). I dont mind since you cant really see it but i would like to stop the spreading so it doesnt go onto the face of the quarter panel..
I could use some help here, I dont want to have to take this in for a 300-400 dollar repair for such minor damage. This is crazy for a 2001!!
Clear peeling like that usually means the surface was not prepped right. It could have been a fingerprint on the base coat before the clear was applied, or in many cases if it is a repaint, the base was allowed to dry too much before the clear was applied. Most BC/CC require the base to be resanded and a new coat if allowed to dry more than 24 hours before the clear is shot, otherwise the clear will peel. Damage like that will require a repaint, no easy way around it.
