There are two Earl Schibe[sp?] franchise stores in my area that have quite a reputation for very good paint jobs. There are always a few older muscle cars in their shop being prepped or sprayed.
You can usually get their better paint deal for about $399. The secret to any paint job is the prep work. If you do most of it yourself you'll save some cash.
If you need to ask, then you are not qualified to do it.....unless you have a friend or acquaintance that can guide you through the necessary steps. Most good body men have their own techniques and tricks they use and they have a sense of FEEL that cannot be purveyed in written form. Many special tools may be needed as well depending on how rough the body is.
I'm not trying to dissuade you but to tell you that it is not a task to be taken lightly.

highley agreed. i never had good luck with paint. ill check out maaco, see what their deal is
If you are unfamiliar with how to do prep work the DO NOT attempt unless supervised by a pro. I had to replace the pass. fender, nose, hood, and had to fix a dent in the pass. door when I first got my car. I did it in my buddies shop, he has been doing body work for over 25 years. he is good at it too. And like Tominator said , they have their little tricks for prepping. I did all the prep work and body work, he guided me and was there to offer a hand. He did the final spray but I did the prep work as well as the final detail. I also helped my brother do the prep work on his car. Not too hard but if you are having to do more than scuff the old paint( dents, bondo, welding, etc.) then it can get a little daunting.
Good luck with it. Maaco would be a decent place to get it painted. Hope you are able to get a good paint job and still save money. :thumbsup

too bad your not in michigan i'd do it for you, my famialy owns a body shop at witch i am the painter, in my opinion stay away from macco and the like i have had to fix more of there jobs than i'd comment about, go to a independent body shop in your area and ask to see some of the things they have done and then work on price, don't get too cheap with paint, it cost alot but i can look really bad if someone doesn't know what there doing!
