We have at least one place in the greater St. Louis Mo. area that refinishes all types of OEM and aftermarket wheels. They advertise on local TV station and radio and claim a 3 day turnaround.

I'd be surprised if there is not a similar business in your area.

You could do it yourself, but you will not get an 'as new' finish. There are aluminum paint strippers you can buy in a spray can at the autoparts store and then you might try Flitz or Neverdull. Regardless, if you try it yourself it's gonna be a lot of work.

Not to mention the probable environmental hazards associated with the strippers and wasted paint. And, don't forget, aluminum is a soft metal. What eats paint, usually eats skin, and may eat aluminum.

D.I.Y. is not always the best answer to every question.

Bead blast them. Thats what I did with my wheels on my Z28. Sand blasting is too harsh on the aluminum. Bead blasting will safely remove the paint from the aluminum and then from there you can polish them. Most wheel repair places should be able to do it.

There was a guide to doing something just like this on another forum but that forum is currently down... perhaps someone has the link bookmarked?
