Default Yellow headlights

Do they sell anything or IS there anything to get rid of the yellow fade in 87-93 mustang headlights?

Yes, new lights is one solution but I don't think that was the solution that noquicky123 was looking for.

Yellow faded headlights can usually be restored to near perfect condition using the right compounds. Adam's suggestion of 1500 grit sandpaper with a high quality polish should work fine. I used a similar method but I used the sandpaper with mild rubbing compound and it worked for me.

I suggest you pick up some 1500 grit or higher sandpaper and try using a few different polishes/compounds to see for yourself which works the best for you.

Hope this is of some help.

I've done that before. You can take it in steps. Use 320 to get it down, then use 600 to get out some sanding marks, and then after that use 1200 to get it smooth and flat. Then with a 2 speed buffer take it and on the first speed use a rubbing compound and buff it to a shine. Don't go all out on it. Feather the trigger and keep it moving so you done burn a hole in the light. If you do then you can buy new ones and be all set. LOL

I used 1500 paper wet on my XR4ti then used TR3 polishing compound. (its that stuff used for removing the first layer of paint to bring back dull pant jobs) It worked great they are not new but they are very clear.

Its the type of plastic it is! Its like the plastic convertible windows after a few years turn yellow.

Default Best polish for clear plastic!

If you guys want a really, REALLY good polish to clean up those yellow headlights, go to your local auto paint supply and purchase a bottle of 3M "Finesse It" white polishing liquid. Bring your wallet, as it is kinda spendy, although, it goes a long way.

I used this as a final polishing compound on my new paint, and thought I'd try a little on the plastic. I just used a little bit on a terry cloth, by hand. I could not believe how well it cleaned it up. I have used this stuff on the clear gauge bezel, head and tail lights, sunglasses, etc.. with great success. And, it smells good too.

the sanding and buffing method can also be used on any of the lights if you have got some lite scrapes or scratches. Just be careful not to burn through the light though.

Hello ,

I am the distributor of a great product Plastic Headlight resurfacer and Protector. they only one in is class, It will clean easily any plastic headlight.

I sell it thru ebay's and some mustang buyers told me to contact the club to offer it to the members as well.

you can see it at ebay for mustang http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:LC:MT:1

or the web site www.headlightslikenew.com

You can see mirrors and the wiper plate on a 2000 sebring. they were really oxidated. See pictures

The wiper plate

The headlight

Also included, feedbacks that I received for this product at ebay

http://cgi2.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-c...bocamultimedia

To finish I included the instructions. You will realize how easy it is.
INTRUCTIONS
1) Using a lint free paper towel, wipe PRETREATMENT back and forth across the lens until the towel no longer turns black or yellow.
2) Wipe a pea-sized amount at the time of the OXIDATION REMOVER back and forth across the lens using moderate pressure. If the lens surface is very gritty, use more O.R. and heavier pressure. Wipe all residues off with a lint free paper towel. This step is very important as it preps the lens for a secure bond of the SHINE RESTORER.
NOTE: If there are many pits in the headlight (which is very rare) you may need to take 1000 grit sandpaper and lightly wet the sandpaper with PRETREATMENT and take the O.R. and lightly sand the headlight until the pits are gone.
3) Apply 3 coats of SHINE RESTORER with a lint free paper towel quickly and smoothly across the lens, try not to do it in direct sunlight or add a little water.
NOTE: This process will only clear up the exterior surface of the lens. Excessively gritty lenses will not clear up as well as lenses that are just cloudy or yellow. This will still make a great improvement in the clarity of an aged headlight and at a fraction of the cost. This process will increase the value of the vehicle and help sell the vehicle.

please contact me on how I can posted message about this product.

John

Meguiars Plastic Polish from the autoparts store. I didn't try it but heard works well. I bought new ones. Let me tell you though. The stang looked brand new with new head lights. But try the 1500 grit sand paper or meguiars plastic polish!

I tried some of the Meguiars Platix polish today. While it did get some of the yellow out and the lights look much better, I think I am going to get new head lights anyway. I saw a 96 with new lights, the clear cobra ones with clear sides and they made the car look great.
