Default Heavy hatch 91GT Fixes?

The hatch on a newly aquired 91 GT will not stay up. The previous owner used a bball bat to prop it but kept the bat. He said he had replaced the 'shocks' in the last year and he had never found a solution. Is there one or is this just a hatch car characteristic?

That mofo is heavy isn't it? I have a 91 GT, have the same problem as you. There is a solution, just gotta find out what makes the hatch slowly rise or whatever and replace it. Not sure exactly what part it is though. I never got around to looking at it.

you need to replace those TWO pistons. it WILL fix the problem. the previous owner probably just replaced one. either that or you can buy a fiberglass hatch

AwRight! I will start with the shocks/pistons It's like they are working against lifting the hatch ,and then won't hold it up. I checked all my other Fords and they look like they are installed right. Fiberglass is an option but this one is in good shape/not rusted.

Thanks. Keep ya posted.
