Default Re: Painting stripes

Greetings!

I too have a 65 Fastback and am in the slow process of restoring it - based on
my picture gallery. My car is Wimbleton White which, is the original color on the Shelby GT350. I have seen the stripes on an original Shelby in Wimbleton White and other "white" paint jobs and nothing holds a candle to the original color combination. They compliment each other with rich hues, where a strark white paint and the LeMans stripes looks a "botched" or a "backyard redneck" job. Its just my opinion.

the only advice I can give is that you need to pick colors that compliment each other. Blues only go two ways around the color wheel. They go either to the red shade or the green shade. So if you are paint your car white with blue stripes find a blue and a white that compliment each other. So if you pick a green shade blue pick a white that goes toward the green side also and same with the other red shade blue pick a white that goes to the red side. But what ever you dont pick a colors that are across the color wheel they will really clash with each other. But the best thing to do is go to your nearest trusted paint store and pick colors that look good. I hope that they will have someone there who knows about color theory and know what colors compliment each other.

well most people think white is white believe me there are proabably a million different whites. i remember we would get school buses in where i worked and they would be about 10 different yellows on it and we would have to tint the paint to make it match to do blend jobs. most people that dont know about paint usually think white is white but there are many difference shades. best thing to do if you dont want the white you stated it go to a place that sells paint supplys and get a paint chip book and go thru it and see what white you are really looking for. dont look at the paint chip inside the building take it out in the sunlight so you can really see what its gonna look like before you buy it since light has alot of affect on the way the paint looks. we would always have to tint the paints outside in the sunlight and put a drip of this an a drip of that to try to get it to match enuff to blend it so you didnt know it was hit. so check your local shops for a paint chip booklet and good find that white you want! good luck
