Default Chrome Wheels

This is my first time here so and I am really hoping that you can help me. I have a 2003 Mustang with chrome wheels. They look fantastic...or rather
did. The chrome is peeling off and just this morning my mechanic told me that the chrome under the tire is badly corroded and he had to grind it off
and paint it. The corrosion was so bad that my tires were not holding air well. This same problem is starting to happen on the visible part of the wheel. This car has never been on the road during the winter.
Has anyone had this same problem. Being over a year old it is not covered by either my warranty, or my extended warranaty. I am wondering if this is a issue that should be taken straight to Ford.

sounds like they are a cheap knockof wheel with chrome paint. When something is cromed, it takes quite a bit for it to chip or peel off.

I myself have had this issue with tires not holding air because of corrosion. We had to remove the tire grind off the corrosion and paint it to get it sealed so it would hold air.Never seen this on a new car though,it was always 1980's and older car that came through the shop with this problem. It sound like cheap wheels to me.
