Default Painting Engine

Hey guys, I have a quick question on painting engines. I have a 95 5.0L and I am pulling the engine in a couple of weeks for some much needed detailing! I am going to paint the rusty block, as well as, the aluminum brackets, heads, water pump etc. My question is what over the counter paint to use and should I be priming all these surfaces first (some Mo in my Mustang club said that he didn't think I would have to prime)? I don't want any flaking. Any info on any certain products would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance!

I repainted my 351 Windsor with out any primer and it worked just fine with out any flaking. You just need to make sure you clean the surface with a wire brush or something and then wipe it down with some laquer thinner to clean any oils off the surface.

Make sure you use an enamel and not a Laquer. The engine paint in the spray bombs works good if you get everything clean with a wire brush and degrease it with some laquer thinner.
