Default Is $600.00 too much to paint hood?

I got an estimate for $600.00 to fit & paint fiberglass hood.I know he does good work but is this too much?He is going to blend it so It comes out good.I dont mind paying for good body work but dont want to get ripped off.

If he is fitting the hood, blending into the fenders, and final cut/sand/polish then I would say 600 is more than fair. When I worked at a body shop, if we had to do *anything* to the panel it was almost always 800 to 1000 dollars with paint/sand/polish. Just a spray and pray is ~200. Most of the time is actually prep and sand/polish as opposed to the actual painting of the piece.

Yeah, pretty much I will just bolt the hood on to get it to him & he is doing the adj fit & paint. There is also a small spot of rust on the fender he is fixing.Where he works they do Porsche, vettes & many expensive cars so I know he will do a good job.He is doing it on the side for me.

Blade10 is right. $600 is quite fair. You'll probably want to polish and wax the rest of the car, when you get it back, so everything really blends well.

I had my guy do my hood for $250 total. Included blending and fitment. This guy also painted my 93 Cobra spoiler for only $100 and again, blending and fitment was included! REMEMBER, a good painter is a good painter, but a painted hood is a painted hood. As long as the person doesn't get bubbles or blank areas in the paint, its fine. Is this car a show car and never driven?? If driven, you're going to get paint chipped and/or scratched, eventually. THATS LIKE ALL THESE "REALLY SMART PEOPLE" BUYING BRAND NEW CARS AND THEN BUILDING THEM UP & RACING THEM. What a waste of money and....

$600 to fit paint and blend is a screaming good deal, especially for an aftermarket hood and the underside.

We usually fit, remove, block sand, prime, block sand, paint, clear, color sand, compound, polish and install. Your looking at at least $600 for an aftermarket hood.

If you are having the work done at a professional shop $600 is an awesome deal.

If Joe Schmoe is painting it illegally in his garage $600 is still fair... but illegal...at least in California. 9 sq ft is the limit for paint work on a single job outside of a licensed spray booth in CA.

Then again we only do good work.
