Question junk gravity paint gun?

i am using a conventional gravity feed paint gun. i repainted my gt and the basecoat went awesome. however the clear is giving me fits. when i cleared the car the first time it spattered the clear on. no matter what seting i tried. so i thought i could wet sand and buff that out but wrong. so i recleared the car after a 800 grit sanding. now i am getting sags everywhere. i am ready to pull my hair out. how can i sand out the sags and just redo the clear in the really bad areas? i am using a 1.4 nozzle ant about 30 psi. w/ nason clearcoat.

Sags usually aren't the guns fault. Check with the maker of the paint and ask for the recommended nozzle size and pressure. Most likely you initially had to little pressure which can cause spatters, or the paint wasn't mixed properly. With the sags, it sounds like the wrong temperature range of hardener or you are applying to wet of a coat at one time.

My friend is a painter and he says Nason is junk paint. He only uses PPG and swears by it.

Has he sprayed it? Just curious. I have sprayed their clear.

Sure, it isnt Dupont (My personal fav), Sikkens, or PPG - but it isnt THAT bad. Actually, its a pretty common paint to be used for "parking lot jobs" and quick touch ups. It doesnt tend to level out near as smooth, but I dont think the paint is his problem with the sagging, unless he is loading the panel.

BTW, it takes a lot for me to defend cheap paint!
