I like Turtle Wax. My only problem is the white residue left in the cracks. But it looks show room shiney when I am done!

Lots of opinions on this, so I'll say I use Meguire's cleaner, polish and wax.

I would say the absolute best thing you can do is Clay Bar the Car First, almost any Wax will do a good job after the Clay Bar!

Please remember to do the whole deal... don't just wash and wax... it does no good if you don't clean, polish and seal, too! Seal, seals in all your hard work... take that one last step when babying your ride.

There are so many threads on this... do a search and you'll find tons of info - some should be pinned here....

I do this 2 times a year:

Wash
Clay Bar
Wash
Polish
Wet Wax
Seal

I use mostly Obsessive Detail Products. I did this combo right before winter and my car looks awesome... wet wax for metallic rides - HOT HOT HOT!

Also I maintain by washing every other weekend when it's nice out and instant detailing every few days when the weather is cold...

I'll be looking at doing this sometime soon since SPRING is just around the corner. Are there any complete kits that have all the items JudisStang listed?

A (synthetic) clay bar is used with a lubricant to remove embedded contaminants from the paint, especially things like metallic brake dust particles from around the wheelwell areas, by drawing the contaminant out.

Here is a link to a really good guide to detailing: Guide to Detailing - Autopia Car Detailing Forum

The detailing guide is four pages of the web site and page 2 of the detailing guide has a section on detailing clay and other pre-wax cleaning of the paint surface. Really good info.

This is not SPAM and I have no association with the above web site other than being an occasional customer in the "shop" section.

Hope the information in the link is helpful to you in learning what a clay bar is and how it's used.

PS: As far as which clay bar brand to use, there are a lot of them out there. I like the Mother's clay bar kit. It comes with a small bottle of spray detailer to use as a lubricant and as far as availability, you can find it at Wal-Mart. If you do buy a Mother's clay bar kit from WalMart, check the box to make sure someone hasn't opened the box and pocketed the clay bar from it.

I love using the clay bar system. It is crazy the difference in the way the paint feels before and after.

I am not sure if anyone does... I happen to use mostly Obsessive Detail products - and items from his site. You will not find anyone who spends more time answering your questions and helping you out by giving you honest answers to your questions. I highly respect Justin. His products last way past one season... I bought items last season and have enough for the next 2-3... and most importantly - give your ride a killer look.

Other than that - you can mix and match, although I like to stay with a few brands that I love and experienced that they work. In an emergency I'll run to the local R & S - there's nothing wrong with store brands - although I am very happy with my current system...

Jim, I agree! my car sat on the dealer lot of a year before I bought it - they didn't bother to clay bar it when I bought it - did a horrible job detailing it... felt like sandpaper.... I clayed it before I had my striped put down - just to get the ride prep'd and it came out FANTASTIC!!! There is nothing like clay bar - the first project of this spring is my husbands yellow chevy needs to be clayed... I'll take some before and after pics - I am sure they'll be a huge difference.

Hi Sannar!

I use the hyper shine sealant - In the spring, I quick detail & cover my ride every day... so when I wash it - it's never too dirty. It is now the dirtiest it has been and we are nearing the end of winter (hopefully) here in NJ... Tomorrow she goes for a bath. I'll tell you what, Justin will hook you up with what you need, and not the most expensive stuff - but what will work for your car. Email him or call him, well worth the time... The only stains I have on my black trim is from spray wax getting on there, it's on the black by my 1/4 windows too - I'll never use a spray wax again... Just not for me... What other products do you use? Just curious! I like to see what others like and use!! Might give me some good ideas!!

I use:
Turtle Wax Ice Wash
Turtle Wax Ice Polish
Wet Wax
Hyper Shine Sealant
and then for extra shine, after the sealant cures (10 minutes) you can add another coat of Wet Wax

California car duster
& mothers quick detailer (but am buying the optimum instant detailer from OD)
for touch ups
