Default Cloudy headlight lenses

Greetings,

I own a 1995 Mustang that I bought new 10 years and over 200,000 satisfying miles ago (I'm on engine No. 3, by the way, that has a major case of headlight lens cataracts. Anybody out there have a solution that really works to restore my existing lenses, or am I headed for buying a new set of (most likely projector) headlights?

Thanks,
Garry Holman

I heard that if you take them off and clean them with regular cleaner, they should get clear again. If that doesn't work, then you'd probably be better off getting new ones.

some brake fluid will clear you lenses right out. Be careful not to get any break fluid on painted surfaces.

Chrome/ metal polish will also clear your headlight good luck

Default cloudy lens

I had the same problem, Ford wanted $239.00 each for replacements, I found a company on line,k2motor, they have several different styles of lights, I bought the chrome ones, added silver star bulbs and to me it was better than new........it was a plug and play install. fit was perfect $169.00 for "both" I had tried the different cleaning stuff and they did not work for me.

Question How can I get rid of headlight haze?

my headlights seem to be getting some kind of "crusty" look and feeling to them... i guess hazy is a better word for it.. i wash my car once a week just hate the look of dirt on the car...

does anyone know how to get rid of this haze on the outside of the headlights? or is it just something that happens to these head lights with age.. its a 99

LateModel Restoration sells a headlight restoration kit that works quite well. Not as good a rreplacing the headlights with new units but definately the next best thing. I did a DIY Paint Refurbishing Tech article (PDF document) some time ago where I used their product to refurish the headlights and taillights. As you can see from the article "it works" and also outlines what is involved to apply it.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Cheers,

I had the same problem and I finally got on ebay and bought a set of those "euro" style headlights. they are inexpensive and they make the car look MUCH cleaner and nicer without too much "ricer" look. I guess it depends on how bad your lights are but I dont think I would even mess with them if they are very bad.
If you do want to just clean them up, there are plastic/glass polishes out there that do a good job.

You could also try a simple plastic polish by hand, or with the Mothers PowerBall attached to your cordless drill -- lift the hood and mask off the surrounding areas with light-tack painters tape and polish away.

The easy way to get rid of the haze and yellow is simple. Buy some castrol super clean. Spray alitle on a rag and gently rub it on lense. then buff with a clean rag. Makes yellow lenses look new again. Be carefull not to get on paint. You can buy it at any auto zone for about 4 bucks. Try it. It makes a difference.

See if you can find Meguiar's #10 and #17 plastic cleaner and plastic polish. They both work great together.

I've had good success with Mothers PowerBall Mini and an initial cut with the PowerMetal Aluminum polish, followed by their Plastic Polish.

Lift the hood and mask off surrounding areas with low-tack painter's tape.

Nice results.
