I've been dying to get my car striped with some good, wide (about 12") stripes. I don't want the cheesy look of vinyl, so I've been practicing for weeks with 3M tape and a tape measure. I pretty much have it down to a science when it comes to laying them out. Now I need to know what would be the best paint to use. My car is Satin Silver and I want the stripes to be FLAT BLACK. I don't want them shiney. I also want them to last..... what do I need to do?

I recommend you use Dupont Urathene Flat black (comes in 2 parts, hardener and base paint) .

BUT the trick is to get the correct spray, use a quality gun, or else you can get some not so flat spots. Practice on other surfaces.

Also water sand with 1200 grit the sections to be painted (just the stripe area) to get better adhesion. Use a quality masking tape, and buy a roll of mask paper, dont use old newspapers.

Also, cover all the parts that wont need painting, removing overspray is a killer job.
