Default remove bugs safely from paint

This weekend with the beautiful weather we had here in Illinois, I was out washing and waxing cars. It was going well until I got to the front bumper of my boyfriend's mustang. He has a 2004 black GT. It hasn't been washed for probably a year and the bugs on the front bumper are CEMENTED on. I tried some bug and tar remover (Turtle Wax) and it did nothing. I tried every thing I had on hand that wouldn't scratch the paint and nothing will take them off. Does anyone have any tricks...short of sandpaper? -Thx

Hello. Clay Magic, Meguiar's Final Inspection and a whole bunch of elbow grease. You might want to consider addressing the bugs in a more timely manner in the future.

replace the bumper and put on a brand new '04 cobra front end. lol that would work.

If you want to get serious you are going to have to scratch a little paint off if it is true you have tried all those other things.

If it's been a year, the bugs probably ate into the paint, like bird poo would do after awhile.
Time to get out the polish.

Default i was afraid of that

I was afraid that would be the answer. I didn't have something like clay magic on hand, so I'll look into that. Fortunately, it bugs me a lot more than my boyfriend He was teasing me about crazily washing the bugs off my own mustang the second I got home after driving on the interstate. Gross!

Spray on WD-40 and let it sit overnight. Then go after it in the AM with a nylon mesh covered sink sponge.

During the peak of the bug season I apply cooking spray on the front bumper if I'm going on a long drive. It cleans right up in the car wash when Im done with the trip.

For fresh road tar you can use Mayonaise. Let it sit a few minutes then clean the area as if you used the spray type bug and tar remover.

I've heard of using WD40,but I've never tried it. I just heard of using"Pam" for prevention, but again, I've never tried it. I've never had "baked on",year old bugs, but a claybar should help out. Zaino Z6 helps prevent new bugs from sticking IMO. Good luck to you and shame on him! Who treats a Stang like that!

You can give Never Dull a try. You will need elbow grease.

you think he would! but i don't think he cares so much about it looking perfect as running perfect. oh, and he keeps my other car, an old dodge minivan i drive in the winter running...so i kinda owe him esp after it dumped a couple gallons of gas across his garage floor. oops.

Hi again It isn't that crazy of a suggestion. You can get them off with a garden hose and a hand towel right after impact, or you can wait a year and use a jack hammer. The bottom line is that this is your car, not his. If having bugs on the front bumper is something that you find objectionable, you might want to consider removing them while it's still easy. Personally, I don't have any problem with washing my own car, but I also don't have any problem with painting my own car. One thing that you might not have considered is that, when organized correctly, you can probably draw a crowd of guys to watch you wash your car, offer 'advice' etc... It normally doesn't take too many episodes like that before your boyfriend realizes that he is actually quite happy to wash your car for you.

Oh, you're good! Or is it bad?! Great advice!
