Default polished lip on Bullitt rims?

Has anyone successfully polished the lip on factory Bullitts? I'd like to get them really bright and shiny without harming the paint. Any input on protecting them afterward would be appreciated too. I was saving for a new set of rims, but I had to replace a furnace (ouch), so I have to make due with what I have for now.

You can use any paint care products, though because it's a plasticized clearcoat on factory and aftermarket wheels like these, it can be a little tough -- so if you're not getting results with paint care products, try something like Mothers Plastic Polish or PowerPlastic on a PowerBall or PowerBall Mini.

you have to sand the lip before you polish it. use 400grit wet sand paper, then 800 then 1000. after that they will polish to a mirror shine without a problem.

... until the clearcoat starts lifting on the spokes. I'm not so sure this is a good idea.
