I tried one of those Mr CLean Auto Dry Kit gizzmos but the spot-free filters dont last the number of washings they advertise so I stopped using it. Too much hassle.
hmm, i had no problem with that. The first filter I got was the "trial" (lasts two washes) filter. Otherwise when I replaced it, I haven't had to replace it yet and I've washed it 10 times so far (once a week)
I use too. But only twice in between drive through car washes.
you should put a good wax on there pronto - a cleaner wax, then a good paste.
your finish is totally unprotected, and the car washes' wax is not that good.
(You really should claybar it, to remove the contaminants that are probably on the finish, right now, since it hasn't been protected . .. )

The spot-free rinse on the Mr. Clean auto-dry system doesn't work very well in San Antonio. We have very hard water, it comes from a limestone aquifer. I typically take mine to a DIY carwash with my own bucket. I hand wash it (Meguiar's Gold Class & microfober glove), then use their spot-free rinse, because it's filtered.
What is claybar?
Meguiar's Gold, Mothers, or Adams
it's a claybar and finish protectant for lubricant - you can find it at a NAPA, AutoZone, etc.,
but you don't want to wax contaminants into the finish.

That's not true, running it through once a week will keep bird & bug enzymes from eating the paint.

I do it every 6 months -no one can believe I have 156,000 miles on the car . .

Get Meguiars 4-step to get it back into shape, then switch to whatever you want.
1st use whatever wash you want
2nd use claybar
(you'll see them labelled)
3rd -step 1 paint cleaner
4th -step 2 polisher
5th -step 3 cleanerwax (?)
6th -step 4 gloss wax (?)
