I guess the first question would be what do mean when you say 'spots' ? If you are talking about tiny little chips, that would be one thing, but, if you mean an area the size of a baseball, that's something else entirely. If it's chips, then you want to fill the chip without getting outside of it with several thin coats, leaving the the touch-up just a little bit below the level of the undamaged paint, and then bring it up slightly above the undamaged paint with clear, and then wet sand the area very carefully back down to level and then buff it out. The color might not be a perfect match, but the clear will help smooth that out some and having the whole area slick, flat and shiny will go a long way towards hiding the slight mismatch. On larger areas I would pretty much have to see some pictures to offer any worthwhile suggestions. The 'rubbing chemical' they mentioned usually means buffing compound or something along those lines.
