I Zainoed my car this weekend. Followed the instructions to the "T". Dawn dish soap wash, clay bar with lub, 1 coat of Z5 and 2 coats of Z2 with ZFX. First of all, the gloss on this is amazing. From a distance, this thing absolutely glows. My problem...this is the first time I've ever "rubbed" the car hard with anything. In the past, I always used NXT and microfiber towels after a wash. It did a great job but i thought I'd give Zaino a try after reading all the buzz. Well, my car is black and now all I see in the sunlight is fine scratch marks where I clay barred the surface. Mind you, I clayed it immediately after a fresh wash so there shouldn't have been anything to mark the surface. Plus, I used the supplied applicators to apply the product afterwards and microfiber to clean it off. So, why all the scratches!! Looks as though I may have to machine polish it to remove them and go through the whole process again. BTW, the process sucks. In all, I had to either apply or wipe down the car a total of 9 times! A real PITA, my arms are still dragging on the ground.
Do you need to strip old wax off? I waxed mine in May with some old Rain Dance polish. It looks fine. I wouldn't plan to wax it again until next spring with maybe TW Ice or a higher end polish. Do I need to strip old wax off first?

You gotta use the dawn, thats what they prefer in the directions, but buddy just bought their 120 dollar kit.. his car looks amazing! Feeling it and looking at it, it looks and feels like he just got all new paint and clearcoat on the car..

You don't need to use Dawn if you plan to clay. The clay will take the old wax off.
Yes...ideally you should always remove the old wax. I recommend you clay the car first before waxing so you can get the best results. Just feel your car after washing. If the surface still feels like there is little bits of grit on it then you need to clay. Clay a section and wipe it clean. It should feel very smooth.
Any really good paint treatment program will have several steps to it. I just did my car too. Wash, dry, clay, Z5, then 2 coats of Z2. It's a lot of work. But the results are hard to match with any other system.
The Mustang is a great looking car. Spend the time it deserves and you won't be disappointed. Kind of like a woman if ya know what I mean .
Did you keep the claybargood and wet with a detailer? Also you have to kneed and fold the claybar all the time or it will rub the contamaniates in the paint.

I feel bad for you - sounds like a lot of work for nothing... I used mothers kit (no 9 x's) and had NO problems whatsoever... the ride came out awesome... if I were you - I would think about giving them a call. Good luck and sorry you had to go through all that work!

Yeah my first thougt was he picked up something in the clay bar and it scratched his finish. There's nothing in the Zaino products that's abrasive. Or maybe there was something in the applicator. I never reuse applicators. They're cheap enough so I buy new ones. A shame either way though.
It sure sounds like you got some type of contamination on your bar, or applicator.
Although I like Zaino, I have since become hooked on Turtle Wax Ice, I used both the liquid and paste. Very easy to put on and take off, they even tell you to use it on the trim, does not leave any residue.
Great stuff

Sorry to hear about your car when did you first see the scratch marks. After you clay bar did you wash the car again then clean with Z-6 ? Maybe they were there before and the high shine just made it show up ? I know black is a tuff color to detail I allways use AIO after I clay bar it cleans up fine scratchs THe use of dawn was the right thing to do it removes all old wax there can not be any old wax on the car when useing Zanio Zaino needs to bond to the paint If i were to guess some how you got something on your pad that cause the scratchs not sure in what step what i might try is one coat of Z-5 it has some coveage to hide the sratchs I'v used Zaino for over 2 years on all my cars with no problems anyway i can help i'll try

pc, i agree there...
You didn't drop the clay bar on the ground and then use it, did you? I'm not being a wise guy - believe me... when I did the clay bar, my car was so bad, the clay bar almost came out of my hands a few times...

Nope...didn't drop the clay bar. My only thought is that perhaps the scratches were caused by the excessive wipe on/wipe off action with the applicator and microfiber towels after the claybar. The microfiber is the only instruction that I didn't follow. Their instructions call for cotton towels, but I've lways had good luck with the microfiber (all brand new ones were used, BTW). Perhaps I'm being too picky. The feel of the paint and the shine are awesome. It's just the fine scratches that can be seen in the light that are causing me the heartache.
I still think turttle wax ice liquid polish is the best on the market and its a quick polish and shines just as good as zano if not better.

You will always have fine scratches, black just shows it more, white the least.
