I just bought a 2006 Mustang GT and love it. Today, I washed and waxed it for the first time when I noticed there are areas where the paint is rough to the touch. It looks great, looks no different than smooth areas but I'm wondering if this is a problem. The color is Sonic Blue and the hood is rough, the top of the doors, the bottom of the doors are smooth and the rear fenders. Trunk and roof are smooth as well as parts not mentioned. As I said, it looks no different, if it did I wouldn't have bought it. Is this a normal thing or is it a defect? There are only 21K miles and if it's a defect, would warranty correct it? And if warranty would correct it, what could be done. Should I just leave it alone? I don't want to mess with the pain and in the process decrease value. Thank you in advance for responses, your help is appreciated.
I had a problem just like that in a very small spot on my fender. My roomates dad owns a paint and body shop and suggested a wet sanding over the spot and it came out perfect. Just wax after you do it and it will be like new
Hello Broncos77, and welcome to the forums... You may want to use a clay bar on it first, and see how that works before wet sanding or taking it to the dealer.
One more thing I wanted to point out. I know it's not splatter. It's too perfect. It's as if from the center down is smooth and center up is rough. This is if you imaging the car being cut in half length wise along the side. It's not just random areas of roughness, it is specific parts of the car.
First try to clay bar it to see if it is just really dirty. If the surface is not smooth after that then you know it is actually the clearcoat and you should try a mild polish to remove what is probably overspray. If that doesnt work then you might want to wetsand.
I am still in the process of getting my car back to perfect after a wreck and the body shop over sprayed clearcoat over every surface that wasnt even supposed to be painted even my rims. Suffice it to say they polished my entire car last monday and its going back tomorrow again for spots they missed.

Sonic Blue on an 06? How'd you pull that one. I wanted Sonic bad, but got bumped to Vista blue when I couldn't get an 05 and had to wait for the 06's. I thought Sonic blue was only a 1 year color. Sorry to hijak, just curious is all.

I guess it must be Vista. I was going off of the description on the key tag at the dealership where I bought it. It listed Sonic Blue as the color.
My early build 05 has bad orange peel issues and the paint seems to chip very easy. I used my random polisher to polish some of it out and it looks better, claybar and a couple of coats of carnuba makes the redfire stand out nice.
