Question fender question

I just put on a new set of fenders on my 89 lx and now i cant get the hood to line up with them. They are used fenders from another 89lx.The hood is factory and i waqnt to get it all lined up so i can put on my new harwood cowl.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Does the hood move side to side?I have about an inch of a gap to deal with.Thanks.

yes, you can adjust the hood, you need 2 guys and a coulpe of wrenches, but it sounds like the fender apron might be bent

If the apron is bent can it be fixed or do i need to take it to a body shop?

Before going to ashop tosolve your problem look at the hood, many companies have their own version of a factory fit. Also you must take into consideration the amount of shims that were used on the other fenders, some shims may have been factory. All a shop is going to do is overcharge for something you can do yourself. Start at the back of the hood and work forward but dont completelytorque everything down until you are satisfied with the fit. It will take a while at first but after a couple you will be able to do it alone in less than 5 min.

Glad I could help, If you get the car painted dont drive at night for about 2 weeks, auto paint doesnt fully cure for about 30 days. you could risk a bug implanting itself in you cars new skin.

There are no shims on these cars for the fenders they just bolt on in factory locations. An inch of gap sounds like alot to me. Was this fender slightly twisted possibly? (the one you purchased?

i got the fender to align a bit better, but the drivers side needs adjustment, that one is original on the car.

The fender at the top will be able to move in and out. The one at he very bottom and the ones bolted to the bumper cover and rad cradle dont have much play. Don't forget the bolt at the middle point of the fender (inside the fender) the one you see when you open the door, it allows the fender at that point to be moved in and out. Get a helper to help you line up the fender(hold it in place when you have a decent gap) then you can snug down a few of the bolts and have a look at it IT's easier to bring in or out the fenders that try to alinging the hood. It will probaly require a combination of all three more than likely though.

Either 8mm or 10mm for the hood and fenders
