STAY WHERE YOU ARE!!!!!! Wages in Florida SUCK. I am a native Floridian and was transfered to Alabama in 1972. I was hot to return "home" and finally got transfered back in March of 2001. BIG MISTAKE. In Florida they think $8 an hour is good pay. My wife was making $30,000 per year as an admistrative assistant in the Birmingham area when she quit to finish her degree in 1999. She is doing the same job in Florida 6 years later and is only making $25,000. I am an auto damage appraiser for an insurance company. Body shops in Birimgham were on $38 per hour when I left in early 2001. Shops in Florida were on anywhere from $32 to $34 when if first moved back down here. Four years later many areas (Orlando is on $36 / hr now) still aren't where Birmingham was four years ago. Housing is astronomical. There was a segment on the local new last week where people are camping out to bid on homes as they come on the market. If you want to work for nothing and pay through the nose for housing COME ON DOWN!!!!!
You've been warned. When I retire I'm getting the hell out of dodge moving back north.
By the way, Alabama is Detroit south. There is a Mercedes plant near Tuscaloosa, a Honda Plant east of Birminghan and a new Hyundi plant just south of Montgomery,
