Been looking around for another Mustang because it looks like my daughter totaled ours. Stumbled across many Mustangs in the Florida area that are half of what they are used here in Texas. I've been looking for convertible 98's and they are plentiful down there. It looks like it may be worth me flying down there to get one. Is there something I'm overlooking that makes them so cheap down there, big storm or anything recently?
Various places and websites not just one, some seem to be small lots some are listed as private sellers. It just seems to be a trend that for a 6500 dollar car here I will find several around 4000 dollars listed there.
I am a auto tech, go look. Run it on Car Fax and have it checked out before you buy it. We see too many people buy a car and then have us check it out. The Car Fax can tell if it is a salvage title or if there have been any major insurance claims or????? It could be that there is a glut of mustangs down there and good deals are all over.

since it is florida, depending on the area of florida, I'd say watch out for rust (we have the same problem in San Diego). Also, in florida SO many people have mustangs it's absolutely ridiculous, and as basic economics says when there's more of something the price is going to drop!

That was what I was wondering, if there was a glut. Checking them out is normal but seeing as many at half of what they go for here made me wonder. We're thinking about flying down there, buying two and driving back, make a long weekend/mini vacation out of it. Convertible V6 for the daughter and a V8 for the parents!

We are specifically looking for a Rio Red V6 convert with a Tan top, preferably with a stick. The V8 vert for the wife we are still discussing but V8 with a stick is a definite requirement. The ones we are finding are 98's with around 80k on them around 4,500.
I just moved from the Orlando area and the main reason there are so many is that they are a very popular Rental Car in the Central Florida area and 2 of the main auctions used by Avis,Budget, and Enterprise are located there so alot of them find there way to the streets...Also let me dispell a coment someone else made..Believe it or not, not alot of cars in Florida suffer from salt rot...I lived there for 6 years and of all the cars (old and new) I owned I only had one problem with salt rot and it turned out that it was originally titled in Michigan..I still own that car and am looking for a replacement body now...I hope this helps you out..
I agree with green. I live in the central Florida area and the mustang is a very popular rental car here. Most of the small dealers in the area buy there cars from whole salers that pick them up at the local auctions.
I will also agree with him about the salt rot. Very few cars here suffer from body cancer. And if they do it is because the paint has oxydized right on down to bare metal and then rusted from the top down. My '69 suffered from this type of neglect. Of course, it was owned by a blind man so I couldn't really hold him responsible for it.

Hello!! I just bought my first mustang (just for the fun of it, this is NOT my work car) in July...my brother lives in Gainesville, FL and like everyone else is saying, it is certainly true that the mustang is an extremely popular rental car in FL. My brother found my little 06 torch red/black top, leather seats, premier pkg vert pony on a Buick dealer's lot where he lives. It had been a rental car from Hertz and the dealer got it at auction there. It is sharp as a tack, clean as clean can be. Everyone where I live thinks it is NEW, bec it looks it. Low miles, lots of warranty left, all documentation, even new car tags!, clean carfax. Very Excellent shape. Service history. Didnt have to pay full new price! He sent me pictures, crawled all over it and checked it out (he knows cars), and I sent him money to make the deal for me, then went and picked it up on July 4. And a VERY sweet deal he made.... Brother says LOTS of them around Fort Myers area, and actually mine came from there to Gainesville. I dont care that it was a rental, I am head over heels in love with it. It is NOT storm damage car!!!! They just have lots of them since it is FL and lots of tourists wanting fun cars. So, my advice is to go for it, I am very happy with my FL stang! And I have a very wonderful brother!!! Good luck!
