I met a Mustang owner while getting gas, his car was lowered and he told me that he used something called a "spring compressor". I'm not sure if he meant that he was able to use the stock springs or not, but he did say that he was able to do the work himself and it saved him a lot of money.
As long as it doesn't have a significantly negative effect on ride quality, I'd go whichever route was the cheapest. However, I guess paying Dallas Mustang $400 to do the work is not THAT expensive.
