I just purchased my first Mustang, a wimpy 1988 2.3 LX Convertible. The top has shrunk and split in several places, so it will need to be replaced.

Can anyone recommend a shop (or individual) within 200 miles or so of Abilene... that can install a top for a reasonable amount of money? A local shop quoted me $1200 or up, which is way over my budget.

try to get a top off of eBay... they're fairly reasonable. I have no idea who is reputable to do the install tho .

Abilene is just a little over 2 hours west of Fort Worth in I-20, not too far. I'm actually going to McKinney to pick up a 2.3 / A4LD combo for spares this weekend.

dang sorry dude.. didnt realize u replyed.. sorry about that.. have u already came to mckinney? because if u know where highway 5 is.. or mcdonald st.. he is right off of there.. the name of the place is "arnolds auto upholstery" he put my black top on in like 2 or 3 days.. he did a pretty good job on it too if i do say so myself

I went up there and came back on Saturday, got the engine and trans. This thing is shaping up quicker than I thought and turns out will probably not need the engine or the trans replaced... but it never hurts to have a spare so I'll freshen this engine, port-match the head, and put a roller valvetrain in it - then crate it up and wait. Turns out it drives really nice and runs fine for what it is, so I could drive it up there if need be.

I'll find Arnold's in the phone book and ask about replacing the top.

hmm well that sounds awesome dude.. im glad to hear that its running good and heck i wish i had a spare engine lol i would be buildin it up to make it fast while i just have the drivin around engine in :-p but if u want the number i got it right here.. i just got back from talkin to him about my sisters car so yea if u need the number its.. 972-548-0551 let him know jacob sent u.. lol so yea goodluck.. if u wanna know n e thing else just let me know dude
