Many Profiles contain the members "Real Name" - first and last.
I have written to the WebMaster suggesting the elimination of the Last name and possibly the member using just an initial.
Why?
If the member also, as many do, indicate their City and State, it is with absolutely no effort one can "Google" or other location program just about identify their street address and telephone number. For all and particular the younger members, I believe this is not a good situation.
In addition, if a member would then freely discuss their car, year, color - exterior and interior, a picture and updated list of mods, mileage, work or school location and their profile shows their Real Name, City and State I think they are opening themselves up for possible car "relocation".
I therefore suggest checking your profile and just using your Last name initial.
Just a thought

Reason: Edit
just come and try to take her. to bad Google won't tell you how many guns and dogs you have in your house though.
good idea though. people should check their info to see what is being displayed for the world to see. while there are a lot of vocal members on this message board, and other boards as well, you have to assume there are just as many or more users that hardly post at all. the lurkers. you might think you know somebody by the topics they post on, or how they react to different threads. But, you just never know about them silent types.

The "Castle Law" is an intriguing document. I think the State, law enforcement and Prosecutors are still feeling their way through it.
It usually has unfortunate consequences, but I think a lot of the "criminals" are young and used to playing video games, so when they arm themselves and kill someone they expect to hit "Reset" or "Game Over" and the guy they shot will magically stand up. Doesn't happen.
Tough aftermath on the adults part. I hope I do not have to make that decision and a Golden Retriever will give them the keys every time.
I did respond to VintageV8 regarding this matter but I was not aware until today that this was also posted to our Forums. I would like to respond by posting my reply to VintageV8
Quote:
Thank you very much for your concerns in All Ford Mustangs
and the members. We have had many, many discussions on this matter going way back to 2002 which was the first time there was a discussion and we have given it a lot of serious thought and what we have in place today is by far the best solution.
I would like to explain to you what we do. We do not make people put their full name or full address.
What we ask is for a Valid first or last name and we ask for a State and with regards to Location we just ask for a general location.
This is explained with examples when you join the site.
Regarding Birth Date, a member can choose to display or hide their Birth Date.
What it would look like is :
John
Southern California
United States
or
Cathy
South Western
Connecticut
United States
This is really all that is required in our rules to be
considered a valid name and address and we feel this is not enough information to track someone down with.
What we found when we didn't require information is:
1. We had anonymous people who didn't want to be a part of our community but instead come to mostly cause trouble or bash.
2. We attracted lots of spammers
We now have a closer community with members who are true mustangers who want to be a part of a real mustang community and we have limited spammers.
I want you to know that we appreciate you bringing this to
our attention and like I said we have given this very serious consideration
and we have had many discussions on this and we feel very strongly with our
current policy on this matter.
In today's world with MySpace and Facebook and others that I don't even know
about, we feel that we are not asking for any more information then these sites, if anything we do not require near the detailed information that they require.
I hope from my response that I have answered your question and addressed your concerns with members information at All Ford Mustangs and
on our policy that we have place.
We do not even require the details that would be listed in a telephone book.
and seeing most profiles daily, I believe members handle their profiles and
information in a responsible way and we have all become "Street Smart".or maybe a new term that would be better is "Web Smart"
I think maybe with the new computer world we live in that
unless we don't want to participate in this Technology of computers then the only thing we can all be is "Web Smart" and aware and I really believe people are now a days.
i like the shotgun idea. I will not be intimidated by people who want to try to take my crap or visit me or omg, google me. My dogs will google their a**es. I refuse to live in fear of who is going to get me.
Try to take anything that i worked hard for and you are going to get a ass full of lead and two dogs ripping the leftover out. Break in my house? your funeral. drop by for an unexpected visit and I don't know you? hope you speak dog. My point. i will not live in fear. Life is too short. BTW i'm a nice guy, really. I get angry when people are afraid of "what if they find me or try to come to my house" I say get in your jock strap, put on your safety goggles and yell "bring it!"

She and I have emailed several times on this and I have to say the people who own and run allfordmustangs.com are really interested in what members think and always listen to a thought out suggestion.
I have never experienced a site so interested and commenting on a member's idea.
