I have a 95 svt and admit I never had major problems with it , beside the normal wear to the clutch. I owned before a 94 cobra and fell in love with the SN95 style. Considering 95 is the last year of the 5.0, it will be a collectible. In 96, the 4.6 was introduced, but along came problems with it considering it was a new motor Ford came out with. If you decide to get a newer one, I would say 97 or 98. It's up to preference.
In case anyone doesn't already know, the '97 (and subsequent '98) Cobras were cost-reduced several ways from the '96 model Cobra.
Strut tower brace and underhood light and honeycomb grille and separate clock pod were elimnated for cost savings. Thinner carpeting was used (I couldn't tell this just by looking but John Chlor at SVT admitted this to me). Rear seating surfaces were made in vinyl. The intake butterfly plates (for the secondary runners that open at 3200 rpms) were changed from machined aluminum to injection-molded plastic. Ford bragged in 1996 that "Teksid, the Italian company responsible for casting the Cobra's engine block and heads, also casts aluminum components for Ferrari road and Formula One cars."* Then Ford said nothing when it switched casting of the Cobra blocks to North America to save money.

Not right.. I have a 97 convertible and it has everything except the honeycomb grill. I think it was removed because of the heating problems 96 cobras experienced. I think these changes were made with the 98 cobras though.

I bought 3 weeks ago a stock 97 cobra coupe with 57K miles for $8,500 here in Indiana. It was a 1 owner with a clean carfax. Haven't had any problems. The only bad thing is it only takes premium gas which hits you in the wallet pretty good. I love the car though. With Flowmaster 40' on it, it's hard to beat the sound when you put that pedal to the floor. It gets a lot of attention. Waiting to get a race with someone but haven't found any takers yet.
but when u think about it, using premium as apposed to regular, you only pay between 2-5 bucks more per fillup, 5 being a full tank, roughly. Thats not that bad. I have to use premium in my H/C/I 5.0, but i dont have a problem with that.

i got my 96 mystic for 9000, go with the mystic you'll love the car, you'll love the attention, its fast, has so much potential (i love the dohc ) has the teksid block with the alum butterfly valve, black leather interior.. i love my car man. just find one in real life, trust me you wont be disappointed.
97 changed the grill and maybe one or two minor details, it also depends on the month your car was made, mine has leftover blow through side scoops lol
98 got rid of the clock and did a bunch of other stuff, including a new electrical system, i cant remember which
the premium's not so bad. its a req for the car club im in (high octane lol) plus as long as you stay out of the secondary valves (3200+rpm) you'll get about 28 mpg
4.6 motors
are more complicated, unless you have deep pockets, its not the way to go. if your'e fearless and a "do-it yourselfer". go ahead...i own a 95' cobra, less troublesome...my co-worker has an 01'... somehow he spun a bearing and since he had to have it torn down he had other parts added/ upgraded and it totally broke him ( in labor costs alone)........am i crazy or does the 4.6 's have (4) cams instead of (1) ? ......not sure i'm ready for all of that jazz.
lol don't be afraid to learn somethin new. the 4.6 is an overhead cam motor, where the 5.0 is cam in block. the 5.0 has one cam at the bottom of the valley, while the gt has one atop each head, and the cobra has two on each head. the 5.0 is cheaper to mod, but the 4.6 (especially the cobra) has WAY more potential. it can rev higher and is way more efficient.
I HAVE A 95 5.0 AND BURNT #PISTION IN 2 WEEKES IT WAS MY FALT TO MUCH TIMING BUT AFTER I TOOK MOTOR APART AND FOUND IT HAS CAST PISTONS REPLACED W/FORGED AND COMPLETE TFS STAGE 3 TOP END WITH ALL THE MONEY I HAVE IN MOTOR COULD HAVE A 32VALVE FORGED COBRA MOTOR AND IF YOUR GOING FORCED IND. THE MOD MOTORS LOVE IT DONT GET ME WRONG MY CAR IS VERY MUCH COMPETIVE W/MOST COBRA BUT WOULD LOVE A 03 COBRA HAS FORGED H BEAM RODS 8 BOLT CRANK{STANDARD}BUT I AM OLD SCHOOL{40}SO I WOULD GET WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT ALL GOOD CARS BECAUSE THE SN95 WAS PAST OVER THE FAX BODY AND NEWER ONE BOTH CARRY A HIGHTER PRICE.I HAD A 89 BEFORE IT HAD FORGED PISTONS THE STOP THAT IN 93 94/95 CAST PISTONS
WOW READING SOMETHING WITH LITTLE TO NO PUNCTUATION IS VERY DIFFICULT I WISH THAT I DIDNT HAVE TO BUT I DID ANYWAY NOW I HAVE A HEADACHE. haha, its cool man, just giving you a hard time. Anyway, if i had to get any cobra, not including an termi, i would definately get the mystic. The trouble is finding one for a good price around here.
