Default new 2004 Mustang cobra owner. need help!

i just bought an '04 mystichrom cobra 2 days ago.
$24,000 / 48,500 miles / no dents just very little paint chips

but anyways,

i just want to go with little mods like an intake, exhaust, tune, and pulley. what do you guys recommend????

i used to have an '06 GT and there were websites like mossmustang.com that had parts just for the s197 so if you know of a good online website that has plenty of parts for the new edge body style please let me know.

If I were you I would go with cherry bomb straight pipe exhaust, summit racing boost pulleys, and summit racing intake.

Congrats on the new car, sounds like a pretty nice unit.

If the car is bone stock i recommend these mods:
  1. Billetflow 2.93 no-slip - Not the smallest but it is a better pulley to use if you want to add a port/lower pulley in the future. Theres just less hassle with belt slip compared to a 2.76. But if all you want is a upper then go with the 2.76.
  2. JLT CAI
  3. Depending on you budget and the sound you want there are many options. I recommend a bassani or magnaflow. a midpipe also gives you a couple extra ponys aswell.
And you will also need to get it tuned.

Here are links to a couple places:

Cherry bombs this isn't a trunk this is a cobra.

There are lots of places to get 03/04 cobra parts .... summit racing isn't one of them.

Default upgrades on 04 cobra

Welcome to the cobra family. Upgrade to an cold air intake, cat-back exhaust with flow masters. Flow masters sound so sweet. Smaller pulley will give you more power and depending what size you go to will depend on belt or idler change and you will also have to get a tune. Afterwards you will be impressed and smilling alot. Looking at about 1,200 dollars.

I have these mods on an 03 cobra 458 rwhp and 474 fptq. lots of fun. Go to hp and tq and you will have to beef up the RIS

Hmmm... I bought my car with flowmasters and they where off in 2 months for some magnaflows. It's not so much the sound i hate (even though it was a little too loud in the car on the highway) but that the kits fit like crap. Mine would scrap everywhere and with my magnaflows they never scrap. Also with the power you will get with these mods an IRS brace and maybe some subframe bushings wouldn't hurt.

I would go with bassani catback and x pipe , sounds really nice. diablo sport tuner is ok but not many shops carry there solfwere sct is were its at most most only use sct tuners

I can understand what you are saying though the flow master system on my car fit extreamly well. It is nice and clean. Has not ever scraped the road and is not to loud when traveling. I guess it determains who installs the system on weather they take pride in their workmanship. The magnaflows aren't bad either. Sounds like he going with the bassani, which is also a good choice.

The reason they didn't fit had nothing to do with the install. The Hangers on the Flowmaster hung down about an Inch lower than the magnaflows. Me and my dad both have 03/04 cobras and had flowmasters installed at 2 different places and had the same problems. We both run magnaflows now. Not saying they suck or anything just the fitment compared to other kits in not as well designed.

Here's my car will flowmaster and then with maganflows crappy pics but you can see the difference. The one on the dyno is with the flowmasters.

Get a SCT xcal 2 or 3 most tuners prefer SCT.

03-04 Cobra SVT MUSTANG Performance Parts has good prices and fast shipping plus their dyno tuned options take out the guess work of putting parts combos together
Stiegemeier Supercharger Porting and Repair Service is good place for Eaton supercharger porting and polishing unless your going big Kenne Belle all the way!

I have the Magnaflow too and love it, my brother got his used from craigslist but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow Exhaust 48500, or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

I have Bassani mid lenths, X pipe and Catback and get nothing but compliments. The orignal owner put Flowmasters on there and though i love the flowmaster sound, the fit was crap. The mufflers usually hang at an angle and that sucks.
For tuner, either find who uses what in your area to tune or use the Xcal. I've seen a car dyno with diablo and then switched to Xcal and picked up a few, not alot, ponies.

I think you spent a little to much for a car with 48,000 miles. I just bought a 2004 MystiChrome as well and mine has just under 18000 miles for $25,000. Not saying you made a mistake just saying my opinion.
