Default 1997 Mustang cobra high mileage

I'm looking at buying a 97 cobra, but the car has 98,000 miles, is this alot for this engine or are they good for more, as i will probably be putting a supercharger on at some stage and don't want to be flogging a dead horse.

Tell you what would be key to me -- knowing how the previous owner treated the car. If you're working with a dealership make sure you can talk to the PO -- it's so important you know how he or she treated the car. Do they have all the receipts for oil changes etc.? Are these highway miles? Did the PO race the car? If the dealership or PO can't answer questions like that -- move on, there's lots of cars on the market. On the other hand -- if these are highway miles as an example, and the PO took good care of the car and can prove it -- that's not a lot of miles for these engines. However, like I indicated earlier, there are a lot of cars on the market I'll bet you can get one with good records and lower miles if you take your time.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice, makes sense, although i'm from the UK and these car's are not that plentiful over here unfortunatley. Although i have found a 96' with 44,000 miles on it but the speedo is in kilometers??

I'd go with the lowest miles example with the best history -- also, be patient, cars come on the market every day.

I have a 97 cobra. The transmissions seem to be the weak point in these cars. On your test drive, make sure to drive it hard to see if it shifts smoothly in all gears. Also do several reverse shifts. I have had no engine problems, but the transmission has be rebuilt. I still have problems with some reverse grinding though.

I'll bare that in mind, when testing it, thanks for the advice. If there's anything else anyone can think of that i should look for on these model's, please let me know.

Thanks again!
