Unhappy what should i do?

hi everyone. i wanted to get some people input on what i should do. i have a 1997 ford mustang cobra and i broke a piston ring and i was told it would be alot easier if i would buy a brand new motor. i was wondering should i just get the same motor; i got it priced for 4,000 or is there a better option like a better motor for just alittle more. please help me out. thanks everyone.

I'm no expert but I'm surprised it's the same or cheaper to go with a new motor. If you haven't already, I'd sure get some other bids from shops with a good reputation. After that, I'd put in a stock engine -- but that's just me and I'm pretty conservative. It would probably sell better if it's stock when you want to move on but it may be more fun to supercharge.

Good question. Are you saying to get another motor for your car is going to cost you 4k. How many miles are on your current motor?

really depnds on your wallet replacing one piston and ring will be @$1000.00 parts and labor or you could do just a rotating asbly: crank, rods, pistons and bearings for @$2200.00 in parts....

I've seen alot more parts for the 5.0 cheaper vs. the 4.6.( I think that's because there older). But if you where to do that I think your going to have to switch some stuff also. I'd go with a better 4.6 It should be cheaper then going with the 5.0L

you need to do better research if your counting out a 03/04 cobra engine because you "heard" something. My number 8 cylinder works just fine...... The only commom problem is that #7 and #8 pistons were melting at top speeds (5th,6th gear) cause there wasn't sufficent cooling to the head for those cylinders (a common problem in ALL DOHC cobra engines but just worst in the 03/04's due to the boosted application). those problems were cured almost 4 years ago with revised heads and a simple cooling mod.

No other stock mustang engine gives as much room to grow as a 03/04 cobra engine. My car makes great power on a stock block and I DD mine everyday.
