Default HELP! 5.0 vs 4.6 Cobra!

Ok, first off I am looking into buying a Mustang, preferably a Cobra. The years that I am looking into are 94-98, due to price. So jumping to the point, should I go with the 94/95 5.0, or the 96-98 4.6?? The 4.6 came with more base horsepower, but the two have similar torque numbers. So, what do you guys feel is a better car to get? I know there are quite a few factors, but one has to be better than the other. Any input helps, thanks.

If it is a cobra I would go with it. The early GT 4.6 motors were not that great. The 5.0 put out better power. Plus there are alot of mods for the 5.0 and better prices.

I am biased on this matter because i have a 95 cobra but I would say get a 5.0. They are much cheaper to mod. If you are going to keep it stock you would probably be better off with a 96-98 but for modding I would go with a 94-95. It just depends what you want in the long run.

Default I would have to agree

I would have to agree in saying that most of the time the 5.0 motors are a little less expensive to mod in the long run. Although I have had both a 96 and a 97 cobra and have been more that happy with them. Haven't done a whole lot of modding yet but can't wait to put on my 150 shot on the 97!! Happy Hunting!!!

Having owned a '95 Cobra with bolt ons and driven a '96 Cobra with just intake and exhaust. I'd go the the '96 4.6L. The 5.0's are nice and easily modded but it's gonna take alot to equal the 4.6L DOHC with bolt ons, a tune and gears.

Like they all said here. Both have there own perks. My 95 cobra/ parts are cheap in cost vs. the 4.6. But once again if your just looking to own a cobra and not mod it I'l go with the 98.
The reason I say the 98 is because they had some time to work out the bugs on them.

If you have to get a GT, the 94-97 GT's have the same HP but the 5.0's are about torque. Now the 98 GT got bumped another 10HP to 225HP. To me, i would either get a 94,95 or 98 GT, if you get a GT. If you have to get a Cobra, i would get the 96-98. The 94-95 Cobra's are sweet and cheaper to mod, but the 96-98 Cobra already has the power, add basic mods and tune, which aren't that expensive, and now you can almost have 300rwhp. a 94-95 cobra, stock 240HP. Add the basic mods and tune and you can have around 230+rwhp. And basic mods don't include heads, cam(s). Like exhaust, CAI, UDPs and so on. If you want that 94-95 cobra to get up to that 300rwhp mark, then you will need heads and cam.
Good luck on what you pick.
