How does a 05 GT compare to a 97 Cobra

I have two questions;
1- How does a 05 GT compare to a 97 Cobra? I had a 97 Cobra that I sold and really miss. Now I may be in the market to buy another Mustang. So how does the 05-06 Mustang compare in power? The red line in the Cobra was higher but the total HP was rated at 305. The 05 Gt is rated at 300.
2- I'm torn between a 03-04 Cobra or a 05 GT. I like that with the cobra it's simple to make more HP. So has anyone drive both cars? I would really prefer to buy the Cobra but it may be a little out side of my budget. Unless I can get one for less than 20 grand. Any ideas??

well ive driven my dads 07 GT/CS and it is a lot of fun. Pulls fairly strong w/ the 3.55's it came with, its comfortable and easy to drive both in normal conditions or when your hauling ***. The 03-04 Cobra may be a tad out of your budget but for less than 20k you could get a very nice 03-04 Mach 1 (305hp) or even 99 or 01 Cobra (320hp). With either of those you would have a good amount left over for any upgrade you may want. I dont know if you considered those but its just a thought. Hope this helps

What does the CS stand for? I have my eyes on a 03 Cobra that has 45xxx miles for just under 20k. I haven't seen it in person as of yet. I thought that the 01 Cobras had problems. I cant remember what it was though. Do they have superchargers?

if you can find 03-04 cobra go with that. i have driven all the mustangs almost including 95 cobra 98 cobra 03 cobra gt350 gt500 gt500kr and personally built a fr500c. the funnest imo was the 03 cobra. it just a different machine than that of the newer mustangs. the fr500c was a close second because it was fun to see it come to life but couldn't hook up in any gear lower than 3rd.

03 cobra wasn't stock though either. all i remember was long-tubes and blower whine......

yea GT/CS stands for GT/ California Special. Its a throw back to the 68 GT/CS which just like today has a few Shelby exterior peices and really not much else... same 4.6L 3V V8 with 300hp ect....
And if you can afford a 03-04 Cobra go for it.
I have never ever heard of a single person that was not happy with that vehicle.

And no the 99 and 01 Cobra is not supercharged and neither is the mach.

what do you want? If you want the classic look than go for the 05. For price can't go wrong with the 97. I think the cobra motor is more hightec and it's a cobra

Can't go wrong their just my to .02. still not a easy choice

A cobra is a cobra. . . . They are all nice cars, and all have plenty of power! Insurance might be something you want to look into also, that can be a deciding factor.

I sold my '06 GT that I mod with 3.73 gears, short throw shifter, Borla Axle backs, sct tuner and a cold air stage 2 induction kit. I miss it and was looking at a 98 SVT Cobra, it was nice but STOCK and way, way, under powered compared to my '06. I'd look for an '05 -'06 and do the mods for less than $1500 and be extremely happy

The 98 cobra and an 03/04 cobra are two different animals. The 03/04 is the best mustang ford ever produced. put a few mods on this and you will be untouchable. They will eat 05-08GT's for lunch.

No matter what you drive, you can never under-estimate your enemy

. To answer the first question on here. I own an 03 Cobra, and have driven quite a few 05-08 GT's. The newer gt's are pretty nice, well. . . they all are! If you want a monster, you can get their either way. The Cobra is my personal favorite though.

There are literally tons of modded stangs on Ebay, decide how much you want to spend and go for it...I've seen supercharged 06s and Saleens, Roush's for well under 25000, if there was ever a buyers market for cars this is it..I got my Saleen 347 copy for a steal
