I had a hypertech in my mustang when it was bolt-ons only. I think it may have advanced the timing a little, but I don't think it was worth the money. The best bang for your buck by far is a set of gears. 3.55 are good for the highway as well and 3.73 are tires wasters, your choice.

Give yourself the poor man's hypertech. Advance the timing 14 degrees or so, put in a 180 degree thermostat, K&N, and a short belt to bypass the smog pump. Run premium fuel with new plugs gapped slightly wider and a new brass distributor cap and rotor. More ump for less than the hypertech. Gawd I love old school 5.0's. I think this is a good bit of what they used to call the 10 minute tune up. It would put the average fox into the high 13 second area. Your Cobra's a little heavier but this getting you moving better.

The above tune-up is probably better than what the hypertech will give you. I would go with a 160 thermostat.

I would avoid the 160. The engine will stay in a cold start loop and you'll freeze your arse off in the winter. An MSD box really wakes a well tuned 5.0 up on the top of an RPM band but be prepared to replace plugs, caps, and rotors more often.

Those chips are crap, definitely stay away from it. The only chips are good are the ones you get when you get a dyno tune.
Like mentioned, advance the timing to 14 degrees, heck some love 16 degrees with no pinging, just have to play with it. Also you can get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and mess with that. but those hypertech chips are useless. Def don't get the 160, you would def have to get a tune for that and like mentioned, you need to live in a warmer climate.
