I have to agree with "Cobrals1eater" on this. I used to think that you need to shift at 6500RPM's in each gear. Not the case, each gear makes peak power at different RPM's.

My shop has told me the same thing. With a whipple/kb and some good boost, you can pick up some power around 6500 but even with a pullied eaton, by 6000 your already dropping boost so why keep turning it when your really not doing much but building heat.

Well to take the guesswork out of it, have the car dynoed and see where the fattest part of the power/torque band is, from there you can see where to shift to find where it will stay in that range the longest, typically you just want to stay over 3000 rpms...you can also go to the track and try different shift points to find the fastest ETs...most street races are won or lost off the line as Stangs aren't known for being able to hook esp with street tires...

It was nothing spectaular, we raced to the top of 3rd/bottom of 4th at most. I took him but barely; he started to reel me in while in 2nd gear. When I shifted to 3rd, I was able to hold on. When we shut down his front fender was at my front driver side tire. Trust me I knew that he would eventually walk me.

I am talking about road racing on a track with no speed limits. Not drag racing , not street racing where one needs to watch out for police and people!
There is a difference between all these.
Your shift best shift point may be in a turn when you have both hands on the wheel.

And you really can't judge two drivers and their cars in a street race. One guy may be scared of the law and back off. Thats not real racing my friends

While I agree street racing has alot of factors and dangers, (legal) drag racing is racing and just because it isn't road course racing doesn't give you a right to say (legal) drag racing is bull [quote=limp {not real racing my friends}] compared to your type of racing.

OK here's the deal, shifting these cars to only 6000 rpms at the dragstrip is causing you WEAK times and trap speeds, you wanna shift about 300 rpms above the peak power band, this has been tested by Many friends at the track, the best et's are made shifting at 6800!
