Default Price of a 1993 cobra R?

Can someone shed a little light please? What am I missing? A 1993 cobra cost about $18,500, yet a Cobra R cost about $25,500. Isn't the Cobra R just a stripped down version of the Cobra? No radio, no sound deadening, no A/C, no back seat? I know it has different wheels, but the wheels are just gt wheels painted black. No? (optioned on 94 through 98. Granted they weren't out yet), I understand that when you call something ''race ready'' people have to have it so you can typically charge more for it. But it seems that you are simply getting less car. Is there something else done to the car that I am missing? Or is it nothing more than low production numbers jacking the price up?

Specifications

1993 Cobra Information

There are subtle differences other than just a 1993 Cobra with interior items left out. The struts/shocks were competition Koni versions, stiffer springs (850 pounds vs 4 cylinder versions), convertible bracing, and a few other tweaks.
But the main thing is the exclusivity that's affecting the price, only 107 were made.

I saw one at the Mustang 45th. It had plastic over the seats, and wasn't even dealer prepped. It had 6 miles on it ! I didn't even want to ask what he'd sell it for.

Yeah the story went that SVT wanted people to race the cars, but the dealers snapped them up and kept them as collector items, very few ever saw the track...now that so many dealers are losing their shirts financially they may be coming off some of the rare, limited edt cars like the Cobra R...the 1996 one with the 5.4 dohc is the really biatchin' one to find...

That sucks if you ask me. The exclusivity of the car should drive up the numbers for collectors years after the fact, not right off the bat. Part of getting your hands on a collectable car is recognizing that it will be worth money and getting it new while it is affordable. It should never have cost $7,000 more for a car with about $7,000 less stuff. The collector market should determine the value of the car not the mfg. 107 made will certainly jack that cost up though. I wonder what they are getting for them.

Well supply and demand will always dicatate the price of any good...you have to remember in 1993 this was the first year for Cobra being on a car since 1979, the dealers in their greed just horded a car that the factory wanted out on the racetrack...so consider cars like the Shelby R model and people's greed factor kicked in and the cars became suddenly "rare" thus raising the price...of course I have to point out to Detroit that the broken dealer model contributes to the huge problems they have now, one being they don't sell what people want...why shouldn't you be able to order a car like you could in the 60s? C'mon Ford

I hear you about supply and demand. But I don't think there was a demand for it. I know dealers will recognize a hot car and raise the price above MSRP. But again, this was the MSRP. Shame on them for making a 235hp car and calling it a race car, then charging 30% more for it. The only thing that makes that car special is the production numbers, certainly not the performance numbers. 2000 Cobra R, now we are talking about something being worth something.

Absolutely, the 2000R is an amazing car. You should buy one of them lol. You could pick up a 95R for about the same price as the 93R and have alot more car....... I also understand there is just something about the fox's that grab attn.! Good Luck
