Smile 97 cobra questions (sc,trans,etc.)

Hey everyone, so i am the proud new owner of a 97 cobra...heres my question...it has 112K on it and im wondering if it would be a problem to supercharge it at this point. Would i have to rebuild the engine or transmission first? Just not sure if its too late in the game with that many miles. Any input would be greatly appreciated. later.

Just depends on how much boost and what condition the motor is in. Maybe do a compression check on all cylinders. If the motor is still strong it's probably fine, but keep the boost @ 6lbs. or less. The factory pistons and rods are weak and don't handle the added stress of supercharging under higher boost levels.

Default Transmission is the weak link

Do a quick search and you will find that transmission problems are common. Does yours have a reverse gear grind? Other than that, the car is great!

Cheers

no reverse doesnt grind at all...all the gears feel fine..the only thing i get is a low rumbling noise(no way to put into words) coming out of first...its not all the time, its only when im at really low RPMs. but i think that its just me sometimes not giving it enough gas and its close to stalling, soon as i get goin everything is fine.

I know you won't want to hear this, but if you want a supercharged cobra sell yours and buy one with the blower already on it...you will spend way more upgrading your car then you will buying one already done...my 1996 got a kenne bell at 150K+, it runs fine, but it cost $7500 for the blower, installl guages and tuning (new: mass air, injectors, fuel pump and chip)...not to mention $2500 in suspension upgrades to handle the new power...all in all, not really worth it...could have a Porsche 911 or Terminator cobra....

oh, go figure you could build a stroker 4.6/5.4 and probably be better off than paying for supercharger and risking the motor with boost
