hi guys im new to mustangs i bought a 99 mustang cobra convertable i belive its the one comes with a teksid block and thats all i really know about it. im 16 and just got my mustang i want to know how to make it faster stronger and more efficiant for cheap i know you get what you pay for and i know its impossible to get things for free so throw some ideas my way thanks keep in mind im on a budget but hey i could save up
Well, I saw a horsepower episode where they were working with a cobra. It seems that different pulleys for you supercharger and a tune serves them well.
99 Cobras aren't supercharged...I found that full headers and exhaust are a nice upgrade, $1500+, Sparco seats are nice to replace the heavy leather ones $900 ish...lowering springs and struts/shocks and subframe connectors will make it handle and look much better $1000 ish...5.0 pro shifter is a nice upgrade for $175, it is a world of better on fast prescise shifting, esp 2-3rd...K&N filter $35 is nice...a new stereo with ipod connections $200 ish...anyways, it never ends once you start...good luck, have fun

you can make slight upgrades like he mentioned before but those things will only add minimal horsepower at most...i mean every little bit counts. if you really wana make your cobra faster your guna need a supercharger or a turbo, its wicked expensive but worth it in the end. dont kill yourself with that car dude.
good luck

K&M Cold Air Intake
SCT Multi Program Eliminator Chip
Bassini Exhaust System
2 - 12" JL Audio Subwoofers
Kenwood Navigation System on the way!!!!!!!!
1.Exhaust after the stock manifolds
2.Before throttle body air intake of your choice
3.Steeda Tri-Ax
4.If staying NA and mostly city drive 4.10-4.30 gears
5.Lowering springs with Caster Camber Plates
6.A hand held (Predator,SCT)to import Custom Tunes and datalog
first of all i would go supercharger, thats what i wish i would have done right off the bat. thats only because when i got mine put on they had to get rid of my other suff,, pulleys, cold air, tuner didnt fit the sc.......... if thats way over budget, go with GEARS 4 sure!!!! the car will be a totally different beast! Just make sure you dont get something that would be too high in case you go forced induction in the future

the 2003/2004 heads with the ford racing high lift cam kit will be be something i will add to my complete stock 99 cobra.
If you do that man your gonna have to change your intake manifold. just giving you some heads up you might already know.

2002 mustang with 4.6 stroker (5.0) with 32 valve 04 cobra heads stage 3 port, ford GT cams, jlt high boost cold air kit, whipple 3.4 ran at 21 psi (still low enough boost for pump gas) Kooks stepped longtubes and full 3" exhaust, mono blade throttle body, t56 viper spec tranny, twin disk spec clutch, sumped fuel tank, 8-an lines with twin 255's, 80lb injectors and all of cooling system upgraded. Thats just the performance mods.
1. Cold air or ram air intake, underdrive pulleys, and tuner
2. Off-road x-pipe and cat-back. SLP or Magnaflow with the straight through mufflers will give you the sound and the power for the best price
3. 3.73, 4.10, 4.30 gears, depending on your intentions. The higher the number the quicker the acceleration.
4. Other driveline components to free up power, i.e. driveshaft, billet steel flywheel and new clutch, and a shifter
5. New brake pads and good tires
6. Look at some suspension packages from Maximum Motorsports and you can build a package depending on your application.
This would put you around $4K once all said and done, but your car would make a statement
Unfortunately there is really no "cheap" mods for a Cobra. Other than getting rid of the silencer in the fender, or maybe getting rid of the stock air box. Everything is more expensive when you own a Cobra engine wise.
