Default 1997 Svt Cobra Running hot when AC on

Hello everyone, I'm new to the All Ford Mustang site and will appreciate your help. My 1997 SVT Cobra Mustang overheats when I run with A/C on and also volt gauge drops to the O when turn the knob to max but when in highway runs normal. In occasions I see the temp gauge needle move up and down rapidlly, any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

wonder when the AC enganges, something could be making it harder to turn(more than normal) which will slow down your other accessories like water pump and alt.
but when you don't turn it on, it runs fine?

I have a 1996 svt cobra and i noticed the same thing when i turn off the a/c i can acually watch the temp gauge go down..... But i did read that these cars run warmer..... where does your temp gauge gp up to when you put the a/c on? like 75% ,50% ??

This is an old and very common problem on those cars..first of all the guage is very sensitive..secondly most owners replace the stock radiator with heavy duty unit...I have a 3 core from Steeda on my 1996, no problems even in 100 degree Florida heat with the A/C on...it's probably your best option.
